A Step-By-Step Guide to the Vampire Facial
If you’ve got even an inkling of an interest in the entertainment industry, then odds are you’ve seen that viral image of reality TV legend, Kim Kardashian, smiling through what looks to be a face, entirely covered in blood. The image spread across the internet in seconds, even shutting down servers across the world for minutes at a time. But no, Kim Kardashian was not taking part in the next installment of the Purge movie series nor was she sacrificing her first-born for more reality TV fame, Kim Kardashian was one of the first celebrities around to jump all over the aesthetic enhancement craze known as the Vampire Facial. Marketed to both men and women around the world, as the end-all-be-all of anti-aging treatments, the Vampire Facial can help patients to reduce things like wrinkles, facial spots or discolorations, and other visible signs of aging. Developed by some of the most forward-thinking minds in aesthetics the Vampire Facial works on the idea of PRP or platelet-rich plasma therapy – a means of using your blood’s own naturally-restorative nature to heal and revitalize your skin. PRP is a part of your own blood, rich in growth hormones that naturally heal and restore the skin, leaving it softer, smoother, younger and fresh, with a healthy, natural glow.
At first glance, the Vampire Facial scares most people and why wouldn’t it? Most patients are seen with a face covered in blood that would rival even the most gruesome of horror films. But in reality, the procedure is minimally-invasive, and most of us will barely feel a thing! And despite the Vampire Facial being a fairly new treatment, in actuality it is simply a combination of conventionally effective skincare treatments, performed in a new, modern way. The procedure combines the best aspects of microneedling and PRP therapy, all wrapped up in a controversial, easily-marketing package, titled the Vampire Facial. At Queens medical spa, Aesthetic Solutions NY patients have seen amazing results. their aesthetic medical director, Alex Benji has provided women (and some men!) with the opportunity to roughly turn back the clock on their skin – without the need for harmful chemicals, acidic solutions, lasers, or overly invasive measures. To help you better understand what the Vampire Facial entails, here is a step by step guide.
· Step 1: Prep Time
To begin the Vampire Facial process, we must clean and prep the face. Anywhere along the treatment area must be completely cleansed of makeup, dirt, debris, and oils. Nothing too crazy just a normal face wash is fine. Then once the area is cleansed, some will want to cover the face with a layer of numbing cream, as this will help reduce any pain or discomfort you might feel from the needles.
· Step 2: Drawing Blood
Once the area is cleansed and numbing cream has been applied, it is time to begin the actual Vampire Facial process. Firstly, they will draw blood as you normally would if you were donating it – from the arm, usually – a vial is enough. As with a normal PRP therapy procedure, the blood is then put into a centrifuge – a device used to spin liquid solutions around rapidly, often assisting in reactions or creating separation of compounds. This goes on for about 10 minutes. This process separates the red blood cells from the platelet-rich plasma solution that is used for the Vampire Facial.
· Step 3: Application
As per a usual microneedling procedure, they will use a device (often a Dermapen or something similar) to create a number of tiny, micro-puncture sites or holes in the face. These micro-cuts are usually only as deep as the skin’s surface however, in areas where there might be more wrinkles, lines, or discolorations – the punctures will be deeper. Once the holes are created, in some instances, some of the PRP will be injected into some of the more severe areas, but for the most part the PRP solution will be spread across the face, and lightly massaged into the holes. It is important for them to rub the PRP solution in well, so that the healing growth factors can make their way into the skin from the micro-puncture sites. This process is generally repeated 2-3 times, until the PRP is finished – depending on the level of correction you might need.
· Step 4: Rest & Recovery
Once that’s done the Vampire Facial procedure is essentially complete. It is important to realize that your face will be in a state of recovery for the next few days to even weeks (usually 1-2 weeks, depending on the individual). As the days go on, the micro-puncture sites will begin to peel and scab over, as any other cut would. If you would feel uncomfortable with a face full of healing scabs, you might want to take a week off of work – otherwise, you can pretty much resume your daily activities immediately after. Just make sure to avoid over-exposure to the sun and any rough scrubs, washes, or cleansing solutions on your face for a week. Once everything has healed, you will notice your skin improving slightly with each successive day – the team at Aesthetic Solutions NY usually states that after a 2-4 weeks you will notice your skin being softer and smoother, with a noticeably youthful glow. And while wrinkles won’t completely disappear after one treatment, they will be visibly reduced. We recommend a few additional sessions, for more correction.
