Juvederm® Voluma
The natural process of aging can do a number on your skin and face. Lines, folds and skin textures change as your face loses the underlying fat layer that gives shape to the face. Fortunately, there are solutions that can reverse your problems with facial aging.
What is Juvederm® Voluma?
Juvederm® and Juvederm® Voluma are two of the products in the Juvederm® family manufactured by Allergan, Inc. It is an injectable dermal filler consisting of hyaluronic acid, which was processed using the proprietary Hylacross technology to ensure a smooth gel rather than the granular type typical of other brands. It is FDA-approved for treating moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, which is achieved by adding volume in the underlying tissues on the face.
How does Juvederm® Work?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that naturally occurs in the body, and its functions include maintaining moisture and keeping the cells healthy. At some point, the body produces less hyaluronic acid, causing loss of volume in facial tissues. The lab-processed hyaluronic acid in Juvederm® is a clear gel that is delivered to the underlying tissues using a fine needle. Hyaluronic acid adds volume by holding water at the site of the injection. Adding volume to the tissues tend to smooth the skin surface, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Some Juvederm® products come with the local anesthetic lidocaine to help numb the treatment area. Juvederm® Voluma is a thicker gel that has special volumizing effects for larger areas and deeper lines. It is injected into a deeper plane often very close to facial bones. Voluma is recommended for use in the cheeks, jowls and chin where its dermal filler effect is most needed to enhance volume loss due to aging.
What to Expect from Juvederm® Treatment
Common side effects include redness, tenderness, swelling, skin discoloration and lumps under the skin. These issues are usually mild and will resolve on their own within few days.
Juvederm® is absorbed into the body at a slower rate than other fillers, which means you can expect effects to last longer. One injection is usually enough to achieve desired results that could last from nine to 24 months.
No downtime is needed after a Juvederm® treatment, but it is a good idea to avoid strenuous activity, sun exposure and alcohol within 24 hours after treatment. Avoid touching the injection site to prevent diffusion of Juvederm® to non-target tissues.
What is the Cost of Juvederm® Treatment?
The cost of Juvederm® treatment will depend on your particular condition. Treatment plans are personalized to meet your needs, but we have discount programs and a VIP program that aim to reduce treatment costs for you.
